Riftstorm has come a long way since its first playtest. Previously it was known as Mythic Protocol.
In its 3rd playtest, Riftstorm has managed to get to the top of the Steam leaderboards. Its now the number one for the “Trending Free” games.
First look
All New Gameplay
The current demo build now includes the full First-Time User Experience (FTUE) for players. You learn the basic controls and are introduced to the game’s lore.
For those new to the game, it’s a top-down shooter with the vibes of those games from the early 2000’s. It’s nice that the dev team decided to write guides on the floor of the map. Everything just fits together to the theme of the game.
The Mythic Protocol secret organization is the organization you’re from and you’ll need to progress the game to learn more about them. The gist to it is that all the conspiracies and myths of the olden days may not just be stories and legends. And the Mythic Protocol may have been in some way involved to an extent that we may not know yet.
After completing the tutorial, you’ll have access to your loadout and gears. With all rogue-like genre, a big part of the game will be collecting, salvaging and building new gears for your characters.
There’s still a lot of improvements that can be added to this game mechanic. I do feel like visual comparison between equipped weapons against weapons in the inventory could be better. But baby step improvements for newly added features.
And there are a lot of gear combinations to choose from as each playable character has weapons they’re adaptable to using. I’m very much familiar with Starling as the first character for the game. Looking forward to try and get used to the rest too
Co-Op Is The Way
I don’t deny, playing the game solo is fun.
You'll be:
- picking the right characters for yourselves,
- choosing the best lythograms combos, and
- singlehandedly defeating bosses.
But playing in co-op makes the game so much better.
You’ll be thinking of:
- what kind of lythograms each of your team needs to get the best combo,
- helping each other out to spend essence on health kits, and
- positioning yourselves together to get the best ways to kill enemies faster.
It’s great that creating a lobby and playing with random players is so easy on Steam.
If you haven’t started playing, Use my referral code (2V9NN6). You get bonus crafting materials for a mid-tier Legendary handgun in the game!
The game is downloadable on the Steam Store.
The Riftstorm IP
The IP started with Riftstorm, but its actually only the first of three games planned for the Rift Realm. All of it will be under the Confiction Labs teams.
Genesis NFT
The Confiction Labs team is releasing a Genesis NFT collection called FICT ZERO. Its their foundation core for all future ecosystems to be created by Confiction Labs.
ZERO, comes with a unique system of “Franchise Rights.” This means the only way anyone can create a derivative or franchise business is through ZERO ownership.
The total supply of ZERO is 888, and 333 will be released in 2024 by invite-only application. The remaining 555 will be release in the future.
Public Application
ZERO is an exclusive, invite-only asset. It was previously through a selection process. It involved one-on-one discussions between the Confiction team and potential holders. This is to prioritize key strategic individuals.
The team is now expanding access through a Public Application process. It’ll be through their 3rd Riftstorm public playtest. It seems like the remaining assets will be a buy-in instead of a free mint.
